Hardwood FAQ
Are hardwood floors difficult to maintain?
Hardwood floors are actually the easiest floors of all to maintain. A routine sweep and mop with our recommended floor care kits is all you need for a lifetime of beautiful floors.
What about installing hardwood floors in kitchens and bathrooms?
Hardwood floors perform great in the kitchen and in half baths. We don't recommend the installation of hardwood in a full bath due to the amount of water. Due to the cushioning effect hardwood floors have, they are excellent in a kitchen where one would be standing in place for a length of time.
Hardwood floors are too expensive!
Actually, the cost of an installed and finished hardwood floor is not much more than the cost of other hard surfaces such as tile. Furthermore, according to the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) and residential real estate agents, as well as a recent nationwide survey commissioned by the trade organization, homes with wood floors hold their value better, sell faster, and fetch higher prices. By a three-to-one margin, real estate agents said that a house with wood floors would sell faster than a carpeted house. Some 58% said a house with wood floors would bring a higher price. Hardwood floors never have to be replaced and will enhance or even increase the value of your home, should you decide to sell. When compared to other flooring products, hardwood floors provide long-lasting value, as real wood floors are "Beauty that lasts a lifetime".
Which species and stain should I choose?
There are several species, colors, and grain variations to consider. Other than the walls, the floor represents the largest expanse of color or pattern in a room. Your floor should work well in the space and not dominate the room. Your floor should complement the fabrics, furnishings, and accessories already present in the room. The most popular floor type and color is natural red oak, with natural maple running second. Darker colors often fit more formal or traditional interiors. Lighter colors often work in country, casual, and contemporary settings.
